Global citizenship education




While the planet could also be progressively interconnected, human rights violations, difference and poorness still threaten peace and property.

Global Citizenship Education (GCED) is UNESCO’s response to those challenges. It works by empowering learners of all ages to grasp that these ar world, not native problems and to become active promoters of a lot of peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure and property societies.

GCED could be a strategic space of UNESCO’s Education Sector programme and builds on the work of Peace and Human Rights Education. It aims to insert in learners the values, attitudes and behaviours that support accountable world citizenship: power, innovation, and commitment to peace, human rights and property development.

UNESCO’s add this space is grounded in its own Constitution that aims to ‘build peace within the minds of men and girls,’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Education 2030 Agenda and Framework for Action, notably Target four.7 of the property Development Agenda, the advice regarding Education for International Understanding, Co-operation and Peace and Education about Human Rights and basic Freedoms (1974), and also the World Programme for Human Rights Education (link is external) (2005-ongoing).

Under the GCED umbrella, United Nations agency has many special themes: Preventing violent political theory through education, Education concerning the Holocaust and killing, Languages in education and and also the promotion of the rule of law through world citizenship education

UNESCO collaborates with an intensive world network to air GCED as well as its own class one institutes, different global organization agencies and inter-governmental organizations, as well as regional organizations, most notably: the United Nations agency Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and property Development (MGIEP), the International Institute for capability Building in Africa (IICBA), the United Nations agency Institute for datum (UIS), the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCIEU), the United Nations agency Associated colleges Project Network (ASPNet) and UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs.
